Port Officer's Information Scarborough Boat Harbour, Brisbane
Port Officer Doug Inall
July 2014
Located on the northern end of the Redcliffe Peninsular is an all weather harbour, in which can be found the Moreton Bay Boat Club Marina, and Scarborough Harbour Marina which has a Travelift with all the usual chandlery, engineering and boat repair facilities. Redcliffe Hospital is a short distance by car from the harbour.
The MBBC has apart from its marina all the facilities one expects in a long established boat club including a well appointed restaurant offering a very good standard of cuisine, beyond that found in many clubs. The great sunsets (by prior arrangement) add to the pleasure of an excellent meal or drinks on the covered deck and in the air conditioned comfort of the restaurant.
All the usual shopping is to be found in the Kippering Shopping area, there is a large Woolworths in Redcliffe along with a good selection of eating places along the Redcliffe sea front, both places are easily reached by a regular bus service, A good selection of coffee shops and eating places together with Doctors, Pharmacy, Post office etc are to be found along the Scarborough seafront just a few minutes brisk walk from the MBBC. The Redcliffe Peninsular supports just about all the trades and business houses that could be required by visiting yachties. Those wishing to go in to the city of Brisbane, there is regular train service to the city from Kippering station some five minutes by car from the club. During the whale season trips run daily from Redcliffe jetty.
Entrance to the harbour is well marked and should be approached (if coming from the South) by keeping the large three pile beacon to port which is at the tip of the peninsular and marks the end of an offshore reef which gives shelter in SE weather to the harbour approach. The pile beacon position is 27° 10ˈ 90S and 153° 08ˈ 20E and is a little to the East of the actual beacon, the channel beacon position 27° 10ˈ 90˝S and 153° 06ˈ 17˝E all beacons are lit and synchronised. In the harbour disregard the area shown as SCM it is now filled with piles against future development, see map 74 Beacon to Beacon directory. Take care not to confuse the entrance channel to Newport Waterway which lies just one half mile to the East of the Scarborough channel
Three quarters of a mile from the entrance beacon will be found the harbour entrance having a least depth of 3m, average depth in the harbour is 2m at MLWS. Those wishing to call in at Scarborough Harbour can contact Moreton Bay Boat Club on 32035188 or the Port Officer on 04202-75299, email javelinvjlg@gmail.com, HF/VHF by arrangement.
